Roller door installation, step by step
A roller door install stands or falls on the opening. Before anything is fixed, the installer checks that the jambs are plumb, the lintel is straight and strong enough to carry the drum brackets, and the floor is level across the opening; a floor that falls to one side leaves a wedge of daylight under the curtain, and a lintel that is out of square makes the curtain run tight on one guide. If the opening needs packing, a new lintel plate or a bead of concrete under the seal, that is done first.
With the old door and its guides removed, the new guides are fixed to the jambs, checked for plumb and for the exact width the curtain needs, since guides set too tight bind and guides set too loose let the curtain rattle. The drum brackets are fixed to the lintel or wall, the drum and curtain are lifted onto them, and the curtain is fed into the guides. The spring inside the drum is then wound to the curtain's weight so the door holds at any height by hand. If the door is being automated, the Capital motor mounts on the drum axle, the power point and wall control are connected, and the open and close limits and the obstruction force are set so the door stops on the floor without straining and reverses if something is in the way. The bottom rail seal and any side brush seals go on last, the remotes are programmed, and you are shown the manual release.
Roller doors have honest limits. The drum takes wall space above the opening, the curtain in steel guides is noisier than a sectional door on nylon rollers, the seal at the sides is a brush rather than a rubber jamb seal, and windows or insulation are not normally available.
