Garage Door Repairs Across Perth's Northern Suburbs

The northern suburbs are a long way from our Gosnells workshop on the map, and no distance at all on the invoice. Tonkin Highway, Reid Highway and the Mitchell Freeway put the whole of the north within a normal working run, so the suburbs there get the same vans, the same technicians and the same price list as the streets around our base. Several northern suburbs have their own page: Joondalup and the Wangara industrial estate in the north-west, Scarborough on the coast, Morley and Bayswater in the inner north-east, Midland at the foot of the hills and Ellenbrook up the Swan Valley.

The doors change with the age of the suburb. The estates built out from the 1990s onwards, Joondalup, Ellenbrook, Currambine, Butler and the newer parts of Wanneroo, run almost entirely on double sectional doors with automatic openers, so the calls are safety beams knocked out of line, remotes that have lost their coding, drive gears stripped by a door that was never rebalanced, and torsion springs on wide doors. The older inner-north suburbs, Morley, Bayswater, Dianella, Balcatta and Osborne Park, still have plenty of roller doors and tilt doors from earlier decades, where the work is drum springs, curtains scraping their guides, cracked tilt arms and manual doors being automated for the first time. Prices north of the river come from the same list as everywhere else. A single spring is $240–$280 incl. GST and a pair $440–$550; an opener repair is $380–$490 and a replacement Capital motor $770–$990 with remotes; a service is from $140; a new standard door is $3,000–$5,000 supplied and installed with the old one taken away. Nights, weekends and public holidays carry a flat $500 surcharge that is quoted on the phone before anyone is dispatched.
