A universal remote works only if it's built to speak that system and is programmed for it. That's why we ask for the motor's model before we come, and bring the right remote rather than a box of maybes.

The usual causes, in order: the lock or 'vacation' mode has been switched on at the wall console, the receiver's antenna wire is broken or tucked inside the housing, an LED bulb in or near the opener is drowning out the signal, or the receiver board itself has failed. The wall button still working is the giveaway. Try the lock switch and the bulb first, then call; a receiver repair is $380–$490 incl. GST.
Fixed-code remotes can be cloned. Rolling-code remotes can't be copied: the receiver expects a sequence that changes with every press, so a clone is rejected. A new rolling-code remote is learned into the receiver rather than copied, and that's what we do on site.
